I've created a new tumblr account to serve as a photo archive for some of my 35mm photographs captured between 1998 and 2005, all of which were scanned in the process of creating memento mori. 1000 or so images will be uploaded over the course of the next 12 months through an automated process 2-3x daily... It’s been a busy start to the new year with several exciting projects underway. I recently collaborated with Peter Mettler on a condensed version of his film Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands for Neil Young’s “Honor the Treaties” tour, supporting First Nations legal challenges to mining expansion in the Athabasca region. The film screened at all tour performances and reached over 21,000 online views in under a week, sparking national discussion. This month also brings four exhibitions of my own work: Alberta and Nude descending (After Duchamp) screened at Open City Cinema’s Stephen Broomer vs. Toronto event in Winnipeg; Hand-processing will screen at Sight Unseen’s Open Call in Baltimore, where I’ll be in attendance; Nude descending (After Duchamp) will appear at Beyond, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival; and Grid07 will screen at the Punto y Raya Festival of Visual Music in Reykjavik, Iceland.

This fall brought several exciting new screenings of memento mori, which continues to exceed my expectations. The film screened in the International Competition at EXiS Festival in Seoul alongside works by Nathaniel Dorsky, Ben Rivers, James Benning, Robert Todd, and Daïchi Saïto, and was featured at the Light Cone Fall Preview in Paris as a new addition to their distribution catalogue. It also screened at Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montréal and Jihlava International Documentary Festival in the Czech Republic, even earning a mention on Blouin Artinfo as one of the festival’s notable “risk-takers.” I also recently created an image-scape for a live performance by Fire Moss at Kingston’s Tone Deaf Festival. Though I couldn’t attend in person, I was thrilled to integrate the live audio recording into the final video mix, now available to view online.

Work on the website is steadily progressing, with new additions to the “etc.” section, which now features acrylic, ink, graphite, and collage-based works, along with a few photographic pieces for now. More paintings, collages, and a completed photography section will be added in the coming weeks—stay tuned.
